From World Water Day to Earth Day: How Corporates Are Partnering for the Planet
- Date: 22 April 2025
In WWF’s Living Planet Report, we learned nature is at a tipping point, putting at risk the fate of our one home and all our futures. However, we have the solutions to tackle this challenge, and one is through collaboration with partners, including business. At WWF, we recognize the pressure that business puts on the environment. Our partners also understand that a healthy business depends on a healthy planet.
From safeguarding freshwater resources, restoring forests, and building sustainable habits at home with consumers, learn more about the partners we work with who are helping us create a more sustainable future this Earth Month and beyond.

Protecting Freshwater Resources with Macy’s
How are you and WWF partnering for the planet?
Since 2023, Macy’s, Inc. has partnered with WWF to support and help build a comprehensive global water stewardship strategy. Through this partnership, Macy’s, Inc. and WWF conducted water risk assessments to identify the water risks and greatest impacts within the company’s supply chain, develop a global water stewardship strategy, and establish a pathway for advancing water stewardship efforts.
Can you explain more about Macy’s, Inc.’s commitment to sustainability?
Through Macy’s, Inc.’s social purpose platform, Mission Every One, we strive to embed sustainability initiatives and practices throughout the enterprise to support our brand’s mission of creating a brighter future for all. Through our efforts to care for the people who make our products and manage our environmental impact, we curate and create sustainable products and services so people and the planet can thrive together.
How are you celebrating Earth Day?
In celebration of Earth Month, Macy’s and Trust for Public Land (TPL) are continuing their ongoing partnership and commitment to creating a more sustainable future by supporting TPL’s transformative Community Schoolyard initiative.
Since the partnership began in 2022, Macy’s raised more than $3.7 million for Trust for Public Land to support the Community Schoolyards initiative. These funds have helped give more than 285,722 community members access to a park within a 10-minute walk.

Partnering to Conserve Forests Globally with HP
How are HP and WWF partnering for the planet?
HP and WWF are partnering on a global scale to make production forests more sustainable, protect wild spaces, and restore forests we’ve lost – all toward creating lasting change for people, climate, and nature. Beyond the work in our landscapes, as partners, we hope to inspire other corporate industry leaders to take responsibility for their environmental impacts.
What partnership accomplishments are you most proud of to date?
Together, we have implemented conservation actions across more than 500,000 acres in China, Brazil, Australia, and Peru —some of the world's most endangered forests. Our partnership deploys specific solutions that are locally relevant and critically needed to conserve forests—from restoring forests in Brazil to training local communities, including women, on reduced-impact logging and safety in a historically male-dominated business in Peru.
How is HP celebrating Earth Day?
HP taps into the talents, passions, and entrepreneurial spirit of our employees to make a difference in our communities and for our planet. Each employee is granted four hours of paid volunteer time per month. For Earth Month, we invite everyone to join “40 Days of Doing Good,” our annual volunteer campaign from 1 April to 10 May. Through this initiative, employees can make an impact by joining a volunteer project with their colleagues in their countries or supporting a local charity that will make a difference for our planet.

Working Together to Move the Needle on Sustainability with P&G
How are you and WWF partnering for the planet?
Over the past 15 years, our partnership has shown how a global company and an environmental organization can work together to move the needle on sustainability. Together, we helped create and drive several key initiatives, including progress on biobased plastics, tackling plastic waste, energy solutions, and responsible forestry. P&G’s efforts focus on reducing our company’s environmental impact, enabling consumers to reduce their impact, and finding solutions that can be adopted across entire industries.
More recently, P&G brands and WWF have partnered on consumer engagement to encourage more sustainable habits at home. For instance, WWF has helped our Tide and Ariel brands promote washing laundry in cold water. This simple change can significantly cut down on energy use. The insights we gain from this collaboration can benefit other brands looking to inspire consumers to adopt more environmentally responsible habits. We hope this will spark even more conversations about making sustainable choices at home.
Can you explain more about P&G’s commitment to sustainability?
At P&G, sustainability is a core part of how we operate, from our supply chain to our brands. We believe in the power of “AND” – creating innovative solutions that tackle everyday challenges with superior performance and are more sustainable. This approach helps us fulfill our mission of improving lives for generations to come.
Our sustainability strategy focuses on three key areas, and our partnership with WWF enhances our efforts in each:
- Reducing our own impact: We are reducing waste, water consumption, and environmental impact. For example, we’ve joined Forests Forward, a signature WWF program for corporate action in support of nature and people that engages businesses to reduce their forest footprint and champion other on-the-ground actions—like forest restoration—to keep forests thriving.
- Enabling people to reduce their impact: Our Cascade Platinum Plus dishwashing product is designed for efficiency, allowing users to simply scrape, load, and be done. By skipping the pre-rinse, people can save even more water compared to handwashing, contributing to greater water conservation.
- Helping scale solutions across industries: P&G and WWF are founding members of the Renewable Thermal Collaborative (RTC), a global coalition of companies, institutions, and governments committed to cleaner thermal energy use by scaling up renewable heating and cooling technologies at their facilities. The RTC focuses its work on the intersecting issues of technology, market development, and policy. Together, we’re working to find and promote renewable thermal energy solutions that are both effective and affordable.
Through these efforts, P&G is committed to making a positive impact on the environment while helping consumers and industries move toward a more sustainable future.
How are you celebrating Earth Day?
At P&G, sustainability is part of our workplace culture. Internally, we celebrate Earth Day all month long as it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to recognize our company’s ambitions and progress and upskill our employees on sustainability. At P&G sites all around the world, teams are hosting Sustainability Expos to showcase our initiatives across brands, the company, and local partners. To wrap up Earth Month, our leaders host P&G’s annual Global It’s Our Home Awards, recognizing individuals and teams who have made significant contributions to sustainability efforts.
