Statement on FY23 Omnibus Appropriations Package

Today, Congress released the Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) omnibus appropriations package which includes annual funding levels for numerous international conservation and environmental programs.

In response, WWF issued the following statement from Alejandro Pérez, senior vice president, policy and government affairs:

“The science is frighteningly clear that climate change and global nature loss are among the greatest threats to our security and future prosperity. Security experts and economists agree, including the World Economic Forum, which has ranked failure to address these crises as the most severe risks over the next ten years.

“In the face of these threats, and just days after the world came together to agree on a new global framework to halt and reverse nature loss in this decade, Congress has failed to provide increased funding for nearly all of the U.S. programs that support international conservation and climate change efforts.

“It is hard to reconcile Congress’ inability to prioritize the resources needed to confront two of the greatest threats we are facing as a country. Given these serious challenges, this bill fails to mount a serious enough response.”
