WWF Statement on the Passage of the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4447, the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act. This legislation makes overdue reforms to federal energy policy and authorizes funds to assist in transforming our energy economy.

In response, WWF issued the following statement from Alejandro Perez, senior vice president, policy and government affairs:

“With record heat, fires, and pollution in the west and devastating tropical storms along the Gulf Coast, it is evident that the climate crisis is here and that we cannot wait to act.

“The House energy package will help advance cutting-edge research, development, and innovation, which are essential for the bolder actions required to address the climate crisis. Those bolder steps are yet to come, and Congress needs to do much more to ensure that innovation is paired with a focus on environmental justice and actions to ensure that we phase out greenhouse gas emissions and the use of fossil fuels by 2050 at the latest. Many of the provisions in this bill will have a real and significant impact on our ability to transform and revitalize our economy and to significantly reduce our carbon emissions using clean energy solutions.”
