WWF introduces innovative technologies to combat poaching in Kenya

In March, WWF staff and local partners installed thermal imaging cameras in two protected areas—fixed-location cameras in one, and a mobile camera on a patrol vehicle in the other. The WWF-engineered cameras identify poachers from afar via their body heat, and are linked to computer software that can distinguish human movement from that of wildlife. They alert park rangers to the presence of intruders and enable rangers on patrol to see poachers before poachers see them.
