WWF works to sustain the natural world for the benefit of people and wildlife, collaborating with partners from local to global levels in nearly 100 countries.
In March, WWF staff and local partners installed thermal imaging cameras in two protected areas—fixed-location cameras in one, and a mobile camera on a patrol vehicle in the other. The WWF-engineered cameras identify poachers from afar via their body heat, and are linked to computer software that can distinguish human movement from that of wildlife. They alert park rangers to the presence of intruders and enable rangers on patrol to see poachers before poachers see them.
