Resilient Bold Belize: Improving Stewardship and Sustainable Livelihoods

The objective of this project is to strengthen the resilience of fisherfolk and fishing communities most vulnerable to climate change on Belize’s Coast, while laying the foundation for long-term sustainability as part of Resilient Bold Belize: Belize’s Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiative. The PFP is a significant private-public partnership to deliver systematic change in the conservation and sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems through building long-term financial support for Belize's marine and coastal protected areas. There are three components in this project designed to deliver the project objective.

• Component 1 strengthens the adaptive capacity of Belize’s existing fisher associations to support representation in fisheries governance, promote climate-smart and safe fishing practices and ultimately build resilience for associations.
• Component 2 expands access to resilient, nature-based livelihood opportunities by building climate-smart business and financial skills, including educational and vocational scholarships to support economic diversification beyond fishing.
• Component 3 improves coordination, communication, and knowledge-sharing across associations and government stakeholders.
