Living Planet Report 2026: What hope can do

When we show up for nature, things start to change

WWF’s Living Planet Report charts a shocking decline in the state of nature. The lastest report shows that wildlife continues to be lost at an alarming rate: 73% on average since 1970.

Nature is in crisis—but that's not the end of the story. Given the chance, nature can bounce back. We see it in the stories of tigers, turtles, tuna, and elephants, where wildlife populations are increasing. In fact, nearly half of all species tracked in the Living Planet Index are stable or increasing.

We also know the greatest threats to nature and what we must do to change course. Halting and reversing the loss of nature is possible if we all play a part.
