On March 15, 2022, WWF-International published the following statement regarding the war in Ukraine:
WWF is appalled by the escalating war in Ukraine, which violates both the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law. We condemn the alarming measures, extreme violence and destruction against civilians in Ukraine. Our hearts and thoughts are with everyone who is affected by this armed conflict, especially the people of Ukraine who are suffering and all those in the impacted regions.
The catastrophic humanitarian crisis is deepening rapidly and an environmental crisis looms larger with every day that the conflict continues.
Peace among people is the foundation of building a future in which people and nature thrive. We stand together with our colleagues, those affected and everyone around the world in calling for a swift and peaceful resolution.
Here at home, WWF-US has taken the additional step of suspending funding and fundraising for Russia programs. We continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to adapt as circumstances change. In the meantime, we are committing our energy, with others, to supporting our colleagues and affected communities in Ukraine and beyond.
We join the rest of the world in calling for peace.
