WWF Statement on President Trump's Antiquities Act Executive Order

In response to the Trump administration’s executive order calling for a review of designations under the Antiquities Act -- threatening existing protections of critical ocean and terrestrial habitats -- World Wildlife Fund (WWF) released the following statement from President and CEO Carter Roberts:

“The Antiquities Act, along with other tools like National Parks designation, have kept intact the jewels that define the American landscape. As the rest of the world increases the protection of landscapes and seascapes fundamental to their cultures and economies, this is no time for us to begin revisiting such provisions as a way of stripping those protections in the future.

“Just 15 percent of the world’s land is protected, and only three percent of the oceans enjoy that kind of safeguard. Life on Earth, including our own, depends on keeping healthy oceans and landscapes intact.”
