Polar bear release in Churchill

Just before leaving Churchill on November 1, 2013, WWF Chief Scientist Jon Hoekstra watched a polar bear being released from "polar bear jail." Polar bears that wander into human settlements and cause trouble are isolated in a holding facility for up to several days then released. For this release, a helicopter was used to transport the immobilized bear from the Churchill holding facility back to the tundra. The bear will head out onto the sea ice to hunt seals as soon as Hudson Bay starts to freeze over for the winter.

This video was shot using Google Glass. Read more about Jon's polar bear experience in Churchill.
