Pablo Pacheco

Global Forests Lead Scientist, Global Science

Pablo is WWF's Global Forests Lead Scientist. Previously, he worked as Principal Scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) based in Bogor, Indonesia. He led a team conducting global comparative research, outreach and policy engagement on forest governance, trade, and sustainable and inclusive value chains. He coordinated the Sustainable Value Chains and Investments Team under the CGIAR Program on Forests, Trees and Agroforestry. He also worked at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and conducted consultancy work for The World Bank and FAO.

He has conducted research and produced global comparative studies on community-based forest management, direct and underlying drivers of deforestation, landscape change, sustainable commodity supply chains, and forest governance. His current work focuses on approaches to achieve area-based inclusive conservation and more effective and equitable deforestation-free supply chains and nature-positive agriculture. He is also working to assess land-use options and territorial governance arrangements to enhance landscape sustainability and resilience, and the enabling conditions required to ensure effective implementation while achieving just and equitable social outcomes.

Pablo was a contributing author to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report Working Group II, and lead author of the IPBES report on Sustainable Use of Wild Species. He is a lead author of the Second Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
