Peru’s Natural Legacy – Amazon & Climate will strengthen the long-term protection and climate resilience of the Peruvian Amazon. Supported by $37.5 million from the Green Climate Fund and $37 million in co-financing, it will apply the project finance for permanence model to improve management and secure sustainable financing of 25 protected areas and four buffer zones, targeting improved natural resource management across 15.8 million hectares.
Working with Peru’s protected area authority, Profonanpe, SERNANP, WWF-Peru, and Indigenous Organizations operating at the national and regional levels the project combines lasting conservation financing with Indigenous-led climate action. Through ecosystem-based adaptation and climate-resilient productive practices, the project will help up to 192 Indigenous and local communities prepare for climate risks and sustain livelihoods while safeguarding the forests they depend on.
