Stéphanie Kilgast’s Discarded Object series imagines a world in which nature comes into balance with the refuse humans have left behind. Rummaging through trash bins and flea markets, the French artist collects everything from old cameras to used toothpaste tubes, toys, and once even a gas mask. She then transforms these articles of waste into vibrant mixed media sculptures that replicate thriving ecosystems of fungi, corals, insects, and other wildlife. Through her playful creations, Kilgast invites viewers to find beauty in unexpected places and consider their relationship to the natural world. As she says, “The more you love the nature that surrounds you, the more likely you are to want to protect it.”
